Hospitallers are volunteer players that make themselves available, both in-game and out, to help new players (or veteran players) that are seeking guidance, or just friendly conversation. To facilitate new players and helping players to find each other in-game, all players are granted access to the titles “Outlander” (to designate player seeking help) and “Hospitaller” (to designate players providing help). While in-game, helping players can display their “Hospitaller” title to signal they are available to provide specific help or newcomer recommendations. New (or veteran) players can signal to other players they would like help, or newcomer guidance, by pressing Keypad “-” and setting their title to “Outlander”.

Hospitaller Code[edit]

The following Hospitaller Code (Law, Motto, Oath) is suggested by various players who helped create the Hospitaller concepts:

  • The Hospitaller Law. Representing the eight points on the Hospitaller Cross, a Hospitaller is:
  • The Hospitaller Motto.
    • For the Avatars and in the Service of New Britannia.
  • The Hospitaller Oath.
    • I do vow, to be vigilant in my duties to be helpful to the Avatars of New Britannia and to obey the Hospitaller Law to the best of my ability; to help other people at all times, and to further the Community of New Britannia.

History[edit]

The Hospitallers in SotA were created based on ideas from a Project New Player initiative in early 2016. Project New Player focused on players-helping-players within the game along with developing in-game player help areas and resources, creating tutorials and guides, and recommending changes to the developers. The Project's players-helping-players within the game ideas formed the concepts for the Hospitallers.

Lord British reviewed the ideas in Project New Player and recommended "Hospitaller" be the title used in SotA for a players-helping-players. The Hospitaller name is based on the Society Chatelaine, Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. (SCA) use of the term and described in their paper On Being a Hospitaller or, “Welcome to the SCA!”[1]

The Hospitaller in-game name tag entered the game in Release 28 (March 31, 2016) along with the Outlander title. In Release 29, Outlander became the default new avatar title to help signal Hospitallers of potential new players who may desire help.

On March 19, 2016, SotAHelp.org was created by Elgarion to host many capabilities for new players and Hospitallers.
