Role-playing

From Shroud of the Avatar Wiki - SotA

Role-playing is where a person assumes a role and then does things as if they are truly in that role.

Terminology used in SotA[edit]

For purposes of helping characterize people, guilds, or groups with regard to role-play style in SotA, the following definitions are offered. These definitions are more explanative and generalized than may be found in the SotA templates (i.e., SotAWiki:Guild roleplay).

  • None - Basically meta-gaming. All knowledge inside and outside the game is used to achieve game goals and interact with others. See: Meta-gaming at RPGTalk
  • Casual - Somewhere between meta-gaming and immersive. Generally do things from the character's perspective while also using out of game information or talking about things out of game.
  • Immersive - Act and think from the character's perspective, including what the character may or may not know based on direct interaction or experience as the character. See: Immersion at RPGTalk
  • Any - Using any type of role-playing or none depending on the situation.

When someone breaks character and must speak or do things in a real-world sense, that is typically called out of character.
