I'm still in Highvale Outskirts, and I've made my way back to the monastery. I gave Esmeralda the Frostgeist Skull I acquired... and she threw "frigid essence" and an unknown powdery substance into my face! After this rude act, she told me I can now use the mystical looking-glass. I should ask her about "step two" to the investigation.
