Community:New Britannia Book Number

In order to keep track of the books they produce, Vyrin and Womby decided to implement a book number. They call it the New Britannia Book Number, or NBBN, and it functions like an ISBN on real books.

Others can use a similar coding system in order to have a tool to more easily identify books across multiple players.

The NBBN consists of two sets of five numbers separated by a dash: 00000-00000.

The first number is the publisher number. The second number is a book number that the publisher determines.

Here is an example from an in-game book...

Using the NBBN is extremely simple.

1) You establish your publisher number (first part of NBBN) by reserving it in this thread. You can choose any available number as long as you are the first to do so.

2) Once you have your publisher number you can set the book number (second part of NBBN) entirely on your own. No one else need be involved. It doesn't matter what we choose as the second part of the number because that will not impact anyone else.

The beauty of this system is that it remains under the control of each individual player while providing a standardized code that can be very useful in organizing libraries and identifying books. Vyrin and Womby place a high-value on the freedom of creativity while at the same time trying to provide opportunities for mutual benefit. Again, this system is completely voluntary, will never be controlled by anyone, and does not fall under any overarching organization.

We would hope that all publishers using this code would then publish the code in their book, perhaps best at the beginning, and better still on a title page.
