The New Britannia Press (NBP) is a news service (at http://newbritanniapress.com/) somewhat inspired by the real-world Associated Press and is a source of in-game news, upcoming events and observations reported from within the world of New Britannia. The idea is to keep things pretty simple and clean so the NBP can also support research and content for guild or town websites, in-game books, and other news services. A goal is to follow generally accepted journalism techniques and style, such as the inverted pyramid (lead/intro, major detail, minor detail).

Again, this is news reporting for things that happen or directly relate to things within the realm of the game (New Britannia).

News Service Capabilities[edit]

The NBP is hosted on a WordPress site that has automatic feeds (syndication) to Twitter, Facebook and Google+ as well as an email subscription option.

Writing Style[edit]

The writing style is usually in 3rd person format and gets straight to the point. Journalism techniques are followed. One of the best sources of how to write news articles is the News Manual Online. Chapter 3 of this manual describes how to shape the news story.

Reporters, Editors, and Staff[edit]

Many people can be a reporter, editor, or staff member. Reporters should write as journalists, not as story tellers. Editors can receive field reports and publish them if reporters cannot do so directly. Editors can also assist in categorizing and tagging articles properly. Staff members help maintain the news service and perform other non-reporting duties as desired (advertising, hosting events, writing help guides, etc.). Submitting News Reports and Tips[edit]

News reports and tips about events, places, people, etc. and can be sent to newbritanniapress@gmail.com or one can find a NBP news reporter.

Use of Images[edit]

Images are not required for news reports, but can help tell the news. Within SotA, screenshots can be taken. Other graphics can also be created. The use of images / pictures should follow the practices of what makes a good news picture. Images should be cropped and resized as needed to improve download speeds and to focus on the "news" in the picture. Images will be hosted (or re-hosted) within the New Britannia Press site and will not be linked to original locations.

The New Britannia Press made its debut on December 1, 2014 by royalsexy with an announcement on the SotA Forums.
