The Old Man and the Fox
by Fox Cunning
When the Winding River went dry a long time ago, an Old Man set forth to the Inner Caves, searching for water. Having filled a leather pouch with some water that was slowly dripping down from a stalactite, he was a-coming back to his settlement when he came accross a Fox who was running with his tail between his legs.
"Where are you coming from, Fox?", inquired he, "And why in such a hurry?".
"Alas!", said the Fox, "Kobolds ambushed me in the dark passage behind me. Barely, I got away with my life!".
"Is that true?", frowned the Old Man, "One thing I learnt from life: trust not the sly Fox!" He imagined that the cunning animal must have been trying to hide great treasure in the gloomy corridors behind.
So he ventured into the passage where sure enough he was ambushed by Kobolds, who made a meal of him.
