Milos Karpasic
Location: Obsidian Empire

First Seen: Blade of the Avatar

Milos Karpasic, General of the Army of Westreach, was a military commander in the Obsidian Empire.

A very large man, General Karpasic sported a square face, no neck, a low, extensive brow, and small, dark eyes. His black hair was usually unkept, and he wore a vandyke-style dark beard and mustache. The general was prone to rages, and then blaming the other party and magnanimously forgiving them, therefore requiring that they ignore the incident. It is said he was at his most dangerous when he was acting friendly.

General Karpasic wore his 'battle armor', depsite never entering battle himself; it was oversized and impractical, with ornate filigree in the image of a one-eyed dragon head, and ornamented with six ornate gardbraces, three on each shoulder, and a luxurious crimson cape.

Even when overseeing a battle, he sits on a ornate chair that he has ported with him. This heavy device was practically a throne, and he enjoyed making those whom the Army conquered bear him upon it through their city.

Aren Bennis thought he was "showy and practically useless".

Spoiler warning: Plot details for Blade of the Avatar follow.

When Aren finds the titular sword in Blade of the Avatar after the conquest of Midras, Karpasic demands that the captain hand his prize over to be used as a symbol of the Obsidian Army's triumph. When Aren complies, Karpasic appears to be adversely affected by holding the blade. He sees things, including the fact that Aren considers him weak, and looks to be terrified. Believing the whole incident to be a trick of Aren Bennis's devising, Karpasic flings the Avatar Blade to the ground and temporarily demotes the captain to overseeing the caravans.

This setback only lasts for a few days, however, as Karpasic quickly reinstates Aren in order to send him with Syenna in search of the legendary Paths of the Dead. When Karpasic later sends messengers to find the captain and recall him, but they find nothing, he is forced to tell Evard Dirae that both Aren and the blade are missing.
