SotAWiki talk:Policies

From Shroud of the Avatar Wiki - SotA
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Below are a few points that I would like to cover publicly about policies we have on the wiki Violation (talk) 18:13, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Main Page[edit]

Featured Fansites[edit]

Currently the policy is to have featured fansites comprised of Spotlight fansites that are positive in nature toward sotawiki.net (backlink isn't required but always appreciated) Violation (talk) 18:13, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Due to the recent increase in fan sites I think we might want to review this policy and find another way to elect fan sites that are high quality and haven't yet been spotlights (likely there will be some sites that are never spotlights that are still great sites). Violation (talk) 15:23, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

Featured Dev[edit]

Portalarium employees (FT/PT/Subcontracted) exclusively Violation (talk) 18:13, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Featured Video[edit]

Must be vetted by a sysop+... no specific requirements here besides it must be a gameplay, design, news, or feature of SotA. Personal advertisements and promo videos are not to be featured on the main page (example: come check out my guild town) Violation (talk) 18:13, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

User Accounts[edit]

User Pages[edit]

Privacy[edit]

SotAwiki will do what we can, within reason, to keep your personal information private; however, we are an open wiki and will not be held liable for any information entered within the wiki becoming publicly visible. Use this wiki at your own risk! Violation (talk) 18:13, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Misc[edit]

Self promotion[edit]

SotAwiki does not advertise any sites. We're a wiki and maintain a non biased view toward sota fansites and groups... at no point will we run a biased review of "the best" or "the better" option for someone to use. We will gladly list everyone's fansites in the community pages but the reviews listed should never make another page/group/organization appear to be less in any way. The only exception to this rule is the ability to issue "by warrant" or "by royal warrant" which can only be claimed by orginizations that have proven they received royal warrants from Lord British Violation (talk) 18:13, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Advertisements[edit]

SotAwiki does not run ads on our site. If you see an advertisement you are likely infected with malware and it is not coming from our site. Violation (talk) 18:13, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Database/Information[edit]

I would like to try and support the other community sites around us but I'm not sure the best way to do this without exposing user account data that is stored in the database. @Fenyx4, do you guys have something we can work from already on ultimacodex? What is your policy on this when people asked for data from the ultima wikis? Violation (talk) 18:13, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

For innumerable reasons we aren't opening the database up. But Mediawiki has a public API. "But Fenyx4" you say "the MW API doesn't curate the data in a useful way for me!"
No it doesn't. That is where SMW comes in. This is a benefit of Semantic mediawiki. As we've discussed before SMW has a public api for getting data. You can query it here (for example guild data) in a broad range of formats. As I am familiar with the data structure I will gladly help write queries.
All I would ask in return for using our data is that they have somewhere on their site "data provided by SotAwiki.net" or somethin' like that. -- Fenyx4 (talk) 18:28, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
Maybe we should make a "Powered by SotAwiki.net" image similar to this image. -- Fenyx4 (talk) 19:10, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
I like that... lets wait on the logo I just messaged you about. Violation (talk) 19:21, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
