Should we include the ==Gallery== section header in this template? I feel it'd be less confusing to editors to leave it out and have it manually added in the article. Also, how will the it be handled if a user wants to autogenerate a collection gallery but still add some images manually? --Alianin (talk) 19:34, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
- It actually does include the section header, but it only shows up if there are items included in the gallery. If it is blank, the heading is suppressed. --Browncoat Jayson (talk) 19:39, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
- (I think Alianin realizes that but thinks it shouldn't be added automatically.)
- If we go with autogenerated (which I think we should) then I feel the section header should be added by template as it follows the ethos of "the editor of the article doesn't care if there are related files or not. The template will figure it out." So, the editor doesn't need to know if there are any files to add to the gallery. The gallery just automatically shows files if there ARE files to show. If the editor has to add the section header then he does need to know if there are files because if there aren't files then he needs to remove the section header and template.
- If we did make the article editor add the section header manually then I, as an editor, would add {{Gallery}} and click show preview in order to check if there are files and then, if there isn't, delete {{Gallery}} and the section header. This seems like a lot of unnecessary steps.
- If you flip it over and look at it from the file uploader's point of view they upload the file and tag it. After that if the section header is added manually then they have to go to all the pages they tag and see if the section needs to be added. If it is added manually then they are done after tagging the file.
