02:38 Friday's community livestream I have
02:40 star here with me and we're going to be
02:42 talking a lot about the news of the week
02:44 and some special things that have been
02:47 happening a really busy week especially
02:49 leading up to next week's new release oh
02:52 my god it's like already coming up yeah
02:54 we've got like with holiday season here
02:57 you know and the spooky ghuli
02:59 decorations that we decorated our office
03:01 with here and then moving fast and
03:03 furious to fall thus to this kind of end
03:07 of the year and a bunch of other stuff
03:11 that's happening here not to mention in
03:13 the game of course so what do we got
03:15 here well myself Eric as you guys know
03:17 me community manager I always forget to
03:19 introduce myself and I look back at the
03:22 comments on YouTube a week later and
03:23 they're like who's that a guy not really
03:25 and I'm star long I'm the executive
03:27 producer on the project also known as
03:29 Dark Star alright so a couple of things
03:32 prizes you guys always want to know
03:33 those upfront so I thought I'd mentioned
03:36 them right away we're gonna we're gonna
03:37 go with a theme like last time where we
03:40 have amp during the last week's telethon
03:42 as well we gave away some of these the
03:44 ornate prison cage the Viking merchant
03:47 outfit we didn't give away that on the
03:49 last Friday live stream so I thought and
03:51 change that up a little bit I think it's
03:53 you know outfits anybody can wear so
03:54 give away a few of those Day of the Dead
03:57 masks six-pack those are really cool and
04:00 the 2017 spooky decoration repack now
04:05 this repack is only available for those
04:07 who tweet so if you have a Twitter

04:22 little news 10 minutes here we're gonna
04:25 have hutch come on and show you the
04:27 Oracle chamber which spoiler alerts what
04:30 big spoiler alert right I mean this is
04:32 like yeah yeah it's like the end of the
04:34 game so you might want to turn off the
04:36 live stream if you want to get spoiled
04:38 at the new game but if you don't mind
04:41 being spoiled it's like one of the
04:43 coolest thing
04:44 ever done it's like so beautiful and
04:46 amazing yeah like a lot of people work
04:49 on it but touch will tell you more about
04:50 that so a couple of really important
04:52 community events are happening this
04:55 weekend we have think Pink's Shooter
04:58 Jennings meet-and-greet tomorrow now
05:01 this is part of a 24 hour stream of thon
05:04 that the airy fund is putting on this
05:08 weekend so check it out in either you
05:10 can go to the community events calendar
05:12 on the main website under the community
05:14 tab you can look at the weekly update

05:18 I like that numbers nice a nice round
05:20 number we just put it out on the website
05:21 you can check out details there and you
05:24 can go into the forums under the
05:26 community events release 46 for the
05:28 current release and they have not only
05:31 the stream Athan for this weekend but
05:34 more details on other events coming up
05:37 like the extra light schedule and it's
05:40 it's a real quick before we talk about
05:41 the extra life so the event is Saturday
05:43 so October is Breast Cancer Awareness
05:46 Month and so the purpose of the stream
05:50 on Saturday is breast cancer awareness
05:52 and so just so you guys know Shooter
05:56 Jennings his wife went through breast
05:59 cancer and so it's very important cause
06:02 for him many of us have had been
06:04 affected by it as well many almost
06:06 everyone we know has had a family member
06:08 affected by that shooter as well so
06:11 shooter some of you might not know he
06:14 actually contributed a lot of content to
06:16 our make a different store for our
06:20 section about breast cancer or so the
06:24 digital copies in-game the wax cylinders
06:26 of his Mountain Countach the album cover
06:30 art the Countach pink dye all of the
06:34 stuff was Shooter Jennings and he did an
06:38 out and release party in the game we
06:40 defense around that and that's the kinds
06:41 of stuff he's gonna be giving away on
06:43 Saturday so he's a he's an amazing guy
06:47 gives given a lot to our community we
06:50 really really appreciate you yeah so
06:54 you're gonna chance to meet him in the
06:55 game so don't be in there and hanging
06:57 out with everybody this way
06:58 again what it was an extra life extra
07:01 life right so extra extra cool extra
07:04 life is something that we participate in
07:05 every year and we got the chance to do
07:08 that a little bit last year but this
07:09 year is going to be bigger and better
07:10 than ever we're gonna have the community
07:12 actually lead in this very fun skits
07:14 coordinating a bunch of live streamers
07:16 in the community so if you are a live
07:19 streamer and you want to stream for an
07:21 hour check the schedule it's on the
07:23 forms ask any of the area fund helpers
07:27 anybody in the community will be able to
07:29 point you to where this schedule is it's
07:32 also linked once again in our weekly
07:33 update and there's a few spots left open
07:36 so there's plenty of opportunities to
07:38 get involved yet whether it's a your own
07:40 livestream or as we're probably going to
07:43 be doing yet we'll be finishing up the
07:45 organization for this showing up on some
07:47 of your live streams while you are
07:49 streaming during extra life extra life
07:51 is November 4th which interestingly is a
07:54 they immediately after our next
07:57 television yeah so right now a ton of
07:59 energy for that and in support of the
08:03 extra life stream Athan we are adding a
08:06 bunch of content to our make a different
08:08 store that is a hospital doctor themed
08:13 that's going to be so weird like a
08:15 doctor's outfit and a nurse's outfit an
08:18 operating table a surgical tray and IV
08:20 bottle a whole bunch of stuff that's
08:22 going to be going in release 47 that's
08:25 going live next week and that's that's
08:26 gonna and it's gonna go in the Family
08:29 and Children's section of our make a
08:31 difference store so look for that
08:33 content and and 50% of the proceeds of
08:37 that are gonna be split between the
08:40 Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and
08:42 hand Doctors Without Borders and
08:43 Children's Miracle Network is the
08:45 charity that the extra live streams
08:49 cool so other events happening coming up
08:52 also
08:54 October 21st which is again tomorrow we
08:57 have Ashley star sapphires birthday bash
09:01 happy birthday Ashley that's in rifts
09:04 and and the community events section of
09:06 the forms has all the details there also
09:09 a spotlight of
09:11 a very special player on town but a very
09:13 spooky and creepy haunted house in that
09:17 town with a lot of story behind that
09:19 house min Wentz haunted house is
09:22 available for touring and there's also
09:24 an audio component of that tour - yeah
09:28 so you can you can wear the the
09:30 headphones the headphones and listening
09:32 to the tour as it guides you through
09:34 this haunted house and we put a
09:36 spotlight out last Wednesday syn clued
09:38 in the weekly update as well - you know
09:41 kind of give you a little bit of story
09:43 and background of this haunted house and
09:45 what men went play around town is all
09:47 about now that leads into the contest
09:51 the Halloween decorating contest this
09:53 can be there's a two-parter still going
09:55 on and we've actually extended it
09:57 another week to Halloween October 31st
10:02 so we're ended on Halloween very
10:03 appropriate and then that following
10:05 Friday we will reveal the winners on
10:07 that community livestream the reason we
10:10 extended it a week was because of the
10:13 jacket yeah so the craftable
10:16 jack-o'-lantern and the previous year's
10:19 jack-o'-lanterns had an issue with them
10:22 that we thought we'd fixed but we
10:25 unfortunately hadn't fixed where they
10:28 can't be placed outside so because of
10:30 that bug which isn't going to be fixed
10:32 to our release goes live next week we
10:34 decided to extend the contest so those
10:37 of you who want to use those
10:38 jack-o'-lanterns are able to use them
10:41 contest yeah so that's there's already a
10:45 lot of submissions that have have been
10:47 coming into the submission thread on the
10:49 forums the main announcement which once
10:52 again is in the weekly update everything
10:55 is always in the weekly update we makes
10:56 it so easy for you guys just click on
10:58 the contest you can see where to submit
11:00 your entry and if you don't have a
11:02 property or home to decorate that's okay
11:05 because there's two parts to this you
11:07 can enter into both you can enter in the
11:09 decorating of your property and or you
11:12 can just sorry I always say cosplay but
11:15 it's costume contest
11:17 part so you can dress up in something
11:19 spooky creepy that sort of thing and
11:22 we've seen some yeah with the scythe
11:24 that through
11:25 nice component therefore it so I should
11:28 dress up in the game like that I'll show
11:29 up to the events this weekend in
11:32 something interesting so there's a lot
11:34 of going on for all of you guys there
11:36 and I think that concludes our community
11:38 news segment I know we went into a
11:41 little bit of your other stuff there but
11:42 yeah and so let's see the stuff to talk
11:46 about I'll try and keep it short so
11:48 Hutchins come on and show you the
11:50 amazing stuff he's been working on let's
11:52 see so so diccon happened last weekend
11:55 and it was incredible so this was our
11:59 first so we we've actually had two SOTA
12:01 cons the first one was in Baltimore last
12:04 year but this was our first Civic on
12:06 here in Austin and it was amazing and we
12:11 had a lot of fun we had a bunch of
12:13 panels and what was really great about
12:15 it was because it was in Austin the
12:18 entire team was able to participate and
12:21 the entire team was able to give panels
12:23 we had two days of panels and it was so
12:27 usually at these things it's you know
12:30 just me and Richard because that's kind
12:32 of though we we can only afford to send
12:34 so many people to events like Dragon Con
12:36 or you know GDC or things like that but
12:40 because it was here in Austin the entire
12:42 team got to go the entire team got to
12:44 get panels so the actual world builders
12:47 got to give panels about world building
12:49 that you know the story guys got to give
12:53 up panels about story the QA team got to
12:55 give panels about QA we didn't talk
12:57 about astronomy for a while there and
12:58 I'm really cool stuff it was it was
13:03 really just really really really
13:04 incredible and just reinforced what an
13:07 incredible credible community because
13:08 the community organized and ran this
13:10 whole thing and they did an amazing job
13:13 economically because one of their goals
13:16 for the con was that they were gonna do
13:19 a really good job economically and give
13:22 money back to the project and they did
13:24 so between the funds raised for the con
13:30 and a drawing that they did during the
13:32 con they were able to and after all
13:36 expenses were paid for
13:37 for the hotel and catering all that
13:39 stuff it's they manage to send back nine
13:45 hundred dollars to the project so it was
13:46 amazing
13:48 it was really really really really
13:49 really great and I can't wait for next
13:52 year it's gonna be a yearly thing and
13:54 we're gonna be posted an update in the
13:57 weekly update today but it was really
14:00 really really really an amazing time so
14:03 loved loved getting to participate
14:06 getting to meet some new there were some
14:08 community members that I had met before
14:10 but I got to meet a lot of new community
14:13 members as well and yeah quite a few new
14:15 ones and we had several take photos so
14:18 if you happen to have been to soda Con
14:19 there is a forum thread with the
14:23 community posting their own photos and
14:25 even videos I hear at some point so
14:27 we'll be watching that and you know
14:29 sharing more of those but yeah the
14:30 weekly update has something let's see we
14:34 had our released 46 telethon right
14:37 before so diccon literally the day
14:39 before so the carded and it was
14:42 incredibly successful like our you know
14:45 so we moved to a monthly format for our
14:48 telephones and you know we were a little
14:51 nervous to see how that's gonna go so
14:52 far it's been incredibly successful you
14:55 know both from the amount of interaction
14:58 we're getting with you guys you know
15:00 doing four hours every month so we get
15:02 to spend a lot more time answering
15:03 questions every month and from what
15:06 amount of funds raised it's great I mean
15:08 we raised $80,000 I really think it was
15:11 because you know you guys really wanted
15:13 that nightmare mount and what was
15:15 amazing was you guys organized ahead of
15:19 time and you set that goal that you
15:21 really wanted to reach $80,000 so you
15:23 could get the nightmare amount so okay
15:27 we have to stop now because I keep
15:28 seeing everyone asking about my risk
15:30 okay so this is a handmade bracelet that
15:35 my sister-in-law gave me from it's an
15:38 artist in Lafayette Louisiana who makes
15:41 metal and leather works and so that's
15:44 it's copper and weather so there you go
15:48 all right now you guys can stop talking
15:51 my wrist alright so thank you thank you
15:55 thank you for another amazing telethon
15:56 it was fantastic and speaking of the
15:58 telethon we answer as many questions as
16:01 we could and then afterwards
16:05 yesterday I managed to finish off with
16:08 some help from Chris and B and other
16:10 team members managed to answer all the
16:12 missing questions that we didn't get to
16:13 in the telethon as we do every time and
16:16 those are now posted in the forum so if
16:18 you didn't get your question answered
16:21 then that's now answered and posted in
16:24 the forums and but we just fit it feels
16:28 like we just finished 46 and now we're
16:29 doing 47 so 47 is coming next week
16:32 it's already on QA so thank you
16:34 everybody who's jumped on QA and already
16:35 started testing you can get a sneak peek
16:38 in to see what's gonna be coming in next
16:41 release there's a lot of really cool
16:44 stuff coming in next release so we've
16:47 got three new scenes we've been doing a
16:49 ton of polish on the story there's a
16:52 bunch of new side quests coming in so
16:53 it's really really getting fleshed out
16:55 as you move through the story there's
16:58 lots of little interesting little side
16:59 quests you can take now we're just gonna
17:02 continue adding those as well we've done
17:04 a ton of optimizations on load times you
17:07 know we you know our first goal was to
17:09 try and get load times around 30 seconds
17:10 we still had some outliers of scenes
17:14 that were a little bit of 30 seconds
17:16 maybe even some that we're still around
17:18 40 now we've got everything 30 or below
17:24 and and our goal is to get down to 15
17:27 and so we've got a bunch of scenes now
17:28 down to 15 because we did a major
17:29 optimization to AI this this time around
17:32 so we're getting we're getting closer to
17:34 the goal so it's it's amazing and we've
17:37 started adding some unique components so
17:41 there's open bowstrings and elven hilts
17:43 so if you salvage some elven bows and
17:47 elven swords you can get these unique
17:50 components and the what we've done to
17:54 support that we've increased the rate
17:58 that you get patterns out of Salvage so
18:00 that's kind of a synergistic effect
18:01 there and there's going to be some new
18:04 facts as well so that's just a that's
18:07 just a sample and plus some holiday
18:10 content and telefon content and seaton
18:13 best content so there's a there's a
18:17 bunch of new stuff coming in so but I
18:20 for me one of the most exciting ones was
18:22 upping the percent chance that you're
18:23 gonna get patterns out of salvaged
18:24 because one of the things we saw was
18:27 that you know we looked at the data and
18:30 we wanted patterns to be rare but they
18:33 we went a little too far they are
18:35 incredibly rare like no one no one's
18:38 really doing Salvage because it's you
18:40 know it's it's just the amount of item
18:42 you know the amount of gear that you
18:44 have to get to get a pattern out of them
18:46 just wasn't wasn't worth it so we've
18:49 upped that percent we're gonna see if
18:51 that percent is enough if it's not once
18:54 we look at the data will up it again but
18:56 it's gonna get better let's see
19:01 soda BAP Oh huge announcement we made
19:03 this week as well so soda map is now
19:08 official part of the project we we've
19:12 been in discussions with Jacob white and
19:15 we have acquired soda map it is now part
19:20 of the project we will be incorporating
19:22 it optimizing it and adding features to
19:25 it now as an official feature of shroud
19:28 of the avatar so thank you thank you
19:31 thank you thank you thank you Jacob
19:32 thank you community everyone who worked
19:34 on the project with them it is a great
19:38 great great feat great application it
19:43 makes playing the game better people
19:45 want to know where that they want to
19:46 where they need to go next and so having
19:48 a map in the game and having maps having
19:51 a tool that the community participated
19:54 in creating is start started in creating
19:57 in the term of Jacob creating this and
19:59 then the community elsewhere
20:01 contributing and and some of that I
20:05 think as I understand it when we get it
20:07 all finalized here integrated and set up
20:11 possible opportunities for the community
20:13 to still be involved yeah absolutely so
20:15 just like we've done crowds
20:17 in the past anyone who's contributed to
20:21 making maps or assisting with that in
20:23 the past we're gonna open that back up
20:25 again and we're actually gonna offer
20:28 bounties for that like we've done in the
20:30 past with other crowdsourcing stuff like
20:32 we've done for music and art and things
20:33 like that so stay tuned for more
20:35 information about that yeah I think I
20:37 actually am tasked with that
20:39 announcement so yeah yeah so it's it's
20:42 gonna it's gonna be great so we're
20:44 really really it's and it's going to run
20:46 much better we're gonna be moving it to
20:48 an Amazon Web Services instance so it's
20:51 gonna load much much much much faster
20:54 than it has and that's just in phase one
20:58 and phase two will be doing further
21:02 optimizations that's gonna be but that's
21:04 not going to be until the beginning of
21:06 next year but in the beginning of next
21:07 year we'll be optimizing it further and
21:10 we'll doing be doing caching a lot of
21:12 that data locally in fact in offline
21:15 mode it'll all be cached locally so it
21:17 can run in offline so this is a month
21:19 long like this can be for the
21:22 foreseeable future that we're gonna be
21:23 improving this making it better yeah I
21:25 mean it's a six month long yeah so
21:27 process but this but you can read it all
21:30 about in the post and look at the
21:32 different phases alright just a couple
21:34 more things to mention right now we have
21:38 a couple of bonuses running so cyber
21:44 monday running through cyber monday
21:46 which is a november 27th any purchase
21:49 you can you make you'll get a bonus of
21:53 crowns you can read about that on the
21:55 website and this weekend we are our sale
22:01 is all about the trees because we we put
22:05 the reaper in this release you know the
22:08 tree creature which we affectionately
22:12 called the tree cur for a while so but
22:15 no it's called the reaper so in honor of
22:18 that all the trees and the bushes and
22:20 the cacti all the plants all the things
22:23 that the reaper protects those are all
22:25 on sale this weekend including the make
22:29 a difference yeah all the Autism
22:31 Awareness
22:31 trees stuff too too so that's all that's
22:35 all on sale this weekend and so and I
22:38 see some people mention mentioning you
22:40 know we think we've been addressing load
22:42 times but they're talking about hitching
22:43 and other performance stuff so as soon
22:45 as we get the load times down that's our
22:47 next priority is to get client frame
22:49 rate and hitching so we're gonna get it
22:52 to it but first we're getting our load
22:54 times down and then we'll get teaching
22:56 although some of the optimizations we've
22:58 made to AI this release should help with
23:00 with some of the hitching issues not all
23:02 of them but some of them so we have
23:04 another community question here Chris
23:07 pallid yeah does your Salvage skill make
23:09 a difference in pattern drop numbers yes
23:11 it does absolutely so the higher your
23:14 salvage guild the higher percent and so
23:16 the percentage change that we made this
23:17 release affects both effect it changed
23:21 the percentage rate across the board at
23:25 lower levels and at higher levels okay

25:32 dealt with and decorated and and worked

25:39 yeah I'm pretty sure that one I don't
25:41 know what these other two but this one
25:42 that we're gonna give away a little bit
25:44 this is the ornate version there's an
25:46 ornate prison cage which is available on
25:49 the store but a lot of these items are
25:51 in as a glowing yeah lowing metal stitch
25:54 along the front of it yeah it's really
25:56 cool but there's what I wanted to say is
25:58 a lot of these items are there's
26:00 craftable versions in the game yeah for
26:03 most things we try and make a craftable
26:04 version is reserving the more ornate
26:10 version as or more unique-looking
26:14 versions for the admin story yeah so if
26:17 you don't functionally they're the same
26:18 thing they just well if I'm gonna be in
26:21 a prison cage I wanted to look nice
26:25 exactly
26:27 so anything anyway if you don't get a
26:29 chance to win one of these today find a
26:32 vendor in the game somebody's selling it

26:39 items I'm fixated on the prison cage
26:41 suddenly alright so why don't we give
26:44 that a couple of minutes as we roll over
26:46 to unity and show you guys something
26:49 very special spoil alert by the way
26:51 major spoiler dangers explain why it's a
26:54 spoiler alert well
26:55 what I'm going to show today is our
26:58 latest progress which were very nearly
27:01 complete with the Oracle temple finale
27:06 room I'm not gonna be showing any
27:09 conversation or any story elements or
27:11 anything like that I'm just going to be
27:12 showing the visual aspect of the the
27:15 completed Oracle temple room this is
27:18 something that has been a very very long
27:22 time in the making and I'll kind of get
27:24 into a little bit of the history of that
27:26 if which hopefully you guys will find
27:30 interesting but yeah major spoilers if
27:33 you don't want to see what the end
27:35 climactic encounter with the Oracle
27:37 looks like then there's your fair
27:42 warning all right so I think we have it
27:45 ready to go we're going to I actually
27:47 was going to add another scene button
27:50 here on on our system to allow you guys
27:54 to more smoothly see the transition from
27:57 our full screen to unity didn't get a
28:01 chance quite to do that so we're just
28:03 going to do kind of a manual little
28:06 shrink down here which is once again the
28:10 wrong thing before we actually go into
28:12 the final room I want to sort of talk a
28:16 little bit about how we got to where we
28:17 are and it's oh sure yeah yeah so we
28:19 won't show this just we won't show that
28:21 quite yet but there's other things I can
28:22 show oh I had a show and most of this is
28:25 has already been seen it's some concept
28:29 art shots from updates and things like
28:34 that I just want to sort of talk about
28:36 you know how we ended up where we are
28:39 now with the Oracle temple and all the
28:40 things that were made all along the way
28:43 so some of these things that you're
28:45 going to show now have been shown in the
28:49 past in the game for years in some cases
28:51 you know things like the Oracle Watchers
28:52 and things like that but you know I want
28:54 to talk about the you know the visual
28:57 development of the Oracle temple and as
28:59 part of doing that I want
29:01 I want to sort of go back and do a
29:03 little history okay okay so we have
29:05 before we unveil it at the end so so we
29:07 have screenshots here then we do and is
29:10 there an order to these before I put
29:12 them up here on the screen so everybody
29:14 can see them well they're numbered by
29:16 they're ordered by numbers oh you
29:19 ordered it okay that's perfect that'll
29:20 make it easy okay
29:22 yeah so I think if we did if we just did
29:25 this it will just go through and see
29:27 Amex okay perfect so let's start with
29:29 the first one and then I will get that
29:31 up on the screen so everybody can see oh

31:42 lot of these are just gonna be concept
31:43 piece is a concept art that were made
31:45 and a lot of work in progress shots that
31:49 have been taken over the years you know
31:53 as we're getting close to the release of
31:56 our forty seven one of our major goals
31:58 for our forty-seven was to was to
32:01 complete the Oracle temple room and that
32:03 that involved tying up some of the loose
32:05 ends that that were existing a lot of
32:08 visual effects a lot of room props and
32:12 animations that were missing and so as I
32:15 as we started preparing for this release
32:19 I started thinking back and looking back
32:22 at sort of how we got here and realizing
32:27 that this scene the Oracle temple scene
32:30 probably more than any other in the game
32:32 has involved the contributions of
32:37 virtually everybody on the team everyone
32:39 doing their part because it's not just
32:43 that one temple room that that we're
32:45 talking about it's all the other things
32:46 that sort of lead into it a temple room
32:50 itself did require you know did take a
32:52 lot of different individuals to to
32:56 contribute to it to complete it but so
32:59 is it is it because this is a little
33:02 side damage and I suppose but I'm
33:04 curious on the design of it and as we'll
33:07 see it later the are we talking with
33:10 size as the time being considered oh
33:13 it's actually it's actually a very small
33:15 room it's a very visit it was always
33:18 intended to be an intimate encounter
33:20 with the the Oracle herself a private
33:23 audience
33:26 you know we didn't so it had to be its
33:28 own scene instance because it's just you
33:31 and the Oracle at the end and so this
33:37 the room itself is about it will it's
33:40 actually the exact same size as what you
33:44 would expect the interior to be based on
33:47 the exterior of that temple building
33:49 that you can see in central Brittany so
33:53 it's a small space but the the level of
33:57 finish on it and the level of interest
34:00 in it is right up there with any of the
34:04 other things that we've done there's
34:05 there's a lot of really cool things in
34:07 there that required a lot of different
34:08 people to to help make very cool by the
34:13 way everybody if you have a question for

34:25 Channel and we'll try to get to that I'm
34:27 manually monitored so I may miss it

34:53 else you know something like this always
34:56 just starts with an idea you know in the
34:58 idea of course started with Lord British
35:00 Himself creating this this world and
35:04 these characters and this sort of
35:06 omniscient Oracle figure who is keeping
35:11 tabs on on what everybody in new
35:14 Britannia is doing watching everybody
35:16 watching everyone you know through the
35:18 through the eyes her eyes on the ground
35:21 are the little watchers the little
35:24 spider creatures and little fly
35:26 creatures that you're going to see in
35:28 the game in cities and in Crossroads and
35:33 they're everywhere everywhere they're
35:35 watching you yeah so it's a little
35:37 creepy it's a little
35:39 big brother but that's part of that's
35:43 part of what the Oracle is it's meant to
35:46 be sort of a and you're supposed to have
35:51 a feeling of money's like you're being
35:53 watched because you are so you know it
35:59 started with the idea and the idea of
36:00 was was Richard Richard's idea over time
36:07 he developed you know all the lore that
36:11 goes into the Oracle herself the minions
36:17 the little Oracle Watchers we're talking
36:19 about the Watchers and menus and things
36:20 I don't know actually what the
36:22 screenshot is that's coming up next year
36:24 but do we have others - yeah we do so
36:26 this is what you see on the screen here
36:29 is some very early visual development
36:31 that was done by our concept artist
36:33 Stephen Denali and this was him working
36:36 with Richard to develop the sort of the
36:41 initial appearance of the Oracle
36:44 you know heavily influenced probably by
36:47 the Morea the metropolis robot in there
36:51 were the robotropolis unquestionably
36:55 influenced by that but our very first
37:01 glimpse of anything related to the
37:03 Oracle in the game now this is going way
37:04 way back this is December of 2013 this
37:07 is original screenshot you see yes Paris
37:10 are from what the game looked like back
37:12 in 2013
37:13 okay so just for you know context here
37:16 everybody some of these because we're
37:17 going through the history here of the
37:19 Oracle this screenshot is over four
37:21 years old so this is not current yes
37:24 right that's right so yeah we'll get
37:25 there we'll get there but this is what
37:27 you see here this Oracle statue head
37:30 relic was actually one of the first if
37:35 not the first item in this family of
37:38 things related to the Oracle in shroud
37:42 of the avatar this was a statue prop
37:47 that was made by
37:49 former team member named J Weichmann and
37:52 again this was four years ago the next
37:55 things that we started working on were
37:59 the Oracle Watchers this again is a
38:03 concept piece of concept art by Steven
38:05 dinelli these things were brought into
38:08 the game shortly after that first Oracle
38:11 statue had was made they were brought
38:13 into the game I think in February of
38:19 2013 so just a couple months later after
38:21 that first that first teaser that you
38:25 got with the Oracle statue had they were
38:30 created by our character artist Isaac
38:35 oyster who's who has moved on to a
38:37 different company but also Kevin wells
38:39 our very own Kevin Wells who was still
38:42 here and still cranking out great art he
38:45 also he made the Oracle fly while Isaac
38:47 made the Oracle spider and these things
38:49 are kind of the first indicator these
38:53 are the kind of the first mechanical
38:55 things you encounter and try the avatar
38:57 they and they sort of were one of the
39:00 initial indicators that you know there's
39:02 something different about new Britannia
39:04 it's and it's a mystery that is going to
39:09 would be unfolding over time now they
39:14 they were initially brought into the
39:17 game I think probably in release three
39:19 that's how back three Wow that's about
39:21 everybody how far back we're talking you
39:25 know a little bit later you know
39:27 probably five months after that you know
39:30 we started working on some of the other
39:32 things you know and you know our
39:34 production method isn't that we you know
39:37 just tackles one thing and just do it
39:38 all at once you know we we have to you
39:41 know think about what when is the right
39:44 time to work on something and so create
39:48 you know getting the the Oracle watchers
39:50 in the game was a good first step in
39:52 getting something unique into the game
39:54 that was uniquely shroud of the avatar
39:55 and sort of helped establish you know
40:00 create a benchmark for what
40:02 you know further development is going to
40:04 be you know a few months later we
40:07 started working on some of the Oracle
40:10 architecture and at least these are all
40:12 it was a concept art that Steven came up
40:15 with working with Richard know this we
40:18 have I see here labeled the ruins and
40:21 the shrine and the shrine is very well
40:23 known by the community they well mostly
40:25 you know many of the community members
40:27 that have played did a story have you
40:30 know come across these buildings or
40:32 maybe called monuments or I don't know -
40:35 but buildings the shrine is well known
40:38 and has been included in several of the
40:40 trailers that the community has created
40:42 so it's definitely one that's
40:44 distinctive building yeah you're gonna
40:46 see this throughout the lands of new
40:49 Britannia as as we continue to expand
40:53 into other areas past novia and hidden
40:56 veil but you know you're gonna find
40:59 these in major cities and also some some
41:02 small smaller remote towns and this is
41:06 they were originally created as you know
41:11 almost like confessional chambers okay
41:14 maybe we can zoom in on that zoom in on
41:16 this guy that'd give them a little bit
41:18 of mouse wheel doesn't work yeah there
41:20 we go
41:20 so hopefully you guys can see that so
41:23 this is initial concept art of what the
41:25 interior would look like and you wasn't
41:26 you you'll get your first sort of look
41:29 at what the Oracle in the confirmatory
41:33 was meant to look like you know it was
41:35 supposed to be a you know basically just
41:38 her face we reserved the the full-body
41:44 version in all of its glory for the for
41:47 the finale
41:48 I see also even right there is I see a
41:52 watcher watching whoever enters the
41:56 though there's a couple yeah there's a
41:58 few yeah there's one climbing out of
42:01 here so so you can see how you know
42:02 Steven when he was developing these
42:05 items he thought about not only what
42:09 they would look like but how they worked
42:11 together and the fact that they belong
42:14 together
42:15 and so it became really important for us
42:17 to make sure that you know what we did
42:20 looked like it was it existed in the
42:23 same family of objects and that it all
42:25 belonged together and so here's a shot
42:30 of the interior again Oh in about let me
42:36 see if I can find it here you know with
42:40 release eight now we're talking about
42:42 July of 2014 we're getting up there and
42:45 right now we're in what really this one
42:47 place 46 so don't don't worry this isn't
42:49 gonna take all we're not going to yeah 8
42:51 - 9 - all the way to 46 okay release 8
42:54 you know we started development on the
42:58 architecture you know we already had
43:00 sort of a glimpse of what the Oracle
43:02 might look like in the game through that
43:04 statue head and we had the watchers and
43:06 they are already walking around the game
43:08 and people had been experiencing them
43:09 for a few releases now we got to the
43:14 point where we needed to introduce the
43:17 Oracle herself in the in the context of
43:20 the Oracle confirmatory which is the
43:22 small version and again it was
43:26 originally called the Oracle affirmation
43:29 shrine but it became known as the Oracle
43:32 confirmatory later this is what you'll
43:35 see in the game this was the first model
43:37 that we made for the Oracle confirmatory
43:41 based this is Bob Cooksey working on it
43:44 and I did I did a little bit of work on
43:48 some other aspects of it as well so it
43:50 was kind of a collaboration but this is
43:54 the the building that we made based off
43:59 of Steventon Ellie's artwork yeah
44:01 somebody asked
44:01 oh it's ambereen amber rain ask is that
44:06 dinelli's work this looks like Denalis
44:08 work hi I'm brain oh yes it is this is
44:11 Steven dinelli's concept art and you're
44:13 gonna see a lot of that through here I
44:19 tend to murder people's names so that's
44:21 the 3d asset that we that we average
44:23 that we initially
44:28 the first place that we put it was an
44:30 artery saying it stands there to this
44:32 day to this day still there so you got a
44:35 little bit more let's give away another

45:14 perhaps don't always have to do that all
45:17 right we have the ornate prison cage and
45:19 the Day of the Dead mass six-pack let's

45:39 sounds good so the next thing that
45:42 needed to be done is now that we had the
45:45 structure for the Oracle we needed to
45:49 actually create the NPC an NPC that you
45:52 could interact with inside the Oracle
45:54 temple so there are a first pass the
45:56 first you know version of the of the
46:00 Oracle in the confirmatory came with
46:04 release 10 in 2014 so you know September
46:08 2014 so three years ago almost so this
46:11 Oracle has been I mean we just we didn't
46:14 just design in three releases and then
46:16 we're done no no no it's been there a
46:19 sequence of objects and sequence of
46:22 development events that led to where we
46:24 are the initial idea for the Oracle
46:30 herself in the confirmatory was kind of
46:33 like a screen of pins and we called it a
46:38 pin
46:38 we don't have a screenshot of that do I
46:40 couldn't find one the only one I could
46:42 find was was very old and it didn't
46:46 really show it the way I want to shove
46:47 I'll try and locate another one but it
46:52 was in vision that's like a mechanical
46:54 construct of primitive pegs that would
46:59 sort of extend and retract to create the
47:03 face of the Oracle when you sat down
47:05 some of our long-term players may
47:08 remember that it became clear pretty
47:12 soon after that that it really just
47:14 wasn't well and it wasn't that engaging
47:17 you know it it felt too impersonal and
47:22 it didn't really succeed it sort of
47:24 eliciting an emotional response from the
47:28 player it was it was just kind of like
47:31 looking at a painting all right well you
47:35 don't sometimes I like doing that stare
47:37 at it for like days on it is it a
47:38 screenshot so we decided that we were
47:50 going to change the the look of the
47:52 Oracle to the automaton face no because
48:02 it would it would feel more personal and
48:04 it you know you'd be able to relate to
48:06 it a little bit better and it would also
48:08 make it easier to animate the the pin
48:11 plate proved to be really restrictive
48:13 for animation and that was kind of the
48:15 source of our feeling that you know it
48:17 just wasn't doing the job that we wanted
48:20 to do so we started thinking your
48:22 Richard started thinking about other
48:25 approaches and he remembered that we had
48:29 done some concept art this is a Scott
48:32 Joan a piece of Scott Jones concept art
48:34 from long long ago you know a version of
48:41 shroud of the avatar that wasn't try to
48:43 the avatar yet it was a sort of a
48:45 prototype game I think this is the
48:48 ultimate RPG phase of
48:51 and also game development but it was
48:54 envisioned as you know sort of the Great
48:57 and Powerful oz or you know the the Oz
49:00 from the stage play wicked well which
49:04 looks like that this is your actually
49:06 yeah that's creepy Wow
49:07 so these are actually I remember that
49:10 these are quite appropriate to what
49:13 we're giving away right now that they
49:14 have dead masks well sort of I guess you
49:16 know their masks or their faces you know
49:19 I minor association I suppose it's a
49:22 face it's a face there we go
49:24 so the Day of the Dead mask six-pack

50:02 Oracle was going to look like we decided
50:03 that she was going to look like
50:07 basically herself but a smaller version
50:10 of herself in the Oracle confirmatory
50:14 now the Oracle you'll recognize a lot of
50:20 design influences with this isn't that
50:24 the let me guess I haven't seen this so
50:26 let's listen fun trivia for the
50:29 community here on discordant which what
50:32 is this I assume they can guess
50:36 theoretically what this where this photo
50:39 comes from yeah everybody's saying
50:40 everybody knows where this comes from my
50:42 the only one is like 90% sure right
50:46 where where does it come from everybody
50:47 we saw this is this is the machine the
50:49 Mensch from Fritz Lang's film metropolis
50:52 Oh actually I was I was gonna guess
50:55 Doctor Who yes
51:00 oh yeah start learning correct yeah yeah
51:03 so this is Maria from metropolis which
51:09 was a very early film and sort of a
51:14 benchmark film but you'll notice a lot
51:17 of design influence from Maria to our
51:21 Oracle and those are deliberate you know
51:25 so when it came time to start building
51:27 the Oracle you know it's sort of to
51:30 expedite that one here's here's our
51:33 Oracle this is another Steven dinelli
51:37 concept very early and this we've
51:43 promoted recently on some of the weekly
51:45 updates and so you can see here that she
51:48 has you know countless wires and inputs
51:54 and things like that that are almost
51:57 there are you know literally enslaving
52:00 her to this to her throne to her chair
52:04 these cables are are essentially the
52:10 data feeds from throughout new Britannia
52:14 of the Watchers and everything yeah
52:16 exactly
52:17 she's keeping track of everything I
52:19 wonder what her fan was this that's a
52:23 good question we may never know so the
52:30 next you know the next thing that we had
52:32 to do was start building it so you know
52:34 to to expedite the production of the
52:39 Oracle
52:40 I bought a full body model of a of a
52:46 robot that resembled the metropolis
52:48 robot Maria and I proceeded to you know
52:52 make some revisions to it you know
52:53 particularly in areas of the face this
52:56 is very very early work-in-progress
52:59 stuff this is the initial result of that
53:03 work but our Oracle evolved beyond this
53:11 in in recent month
53:13 and that's what we'll get to shortly
53:16 we're getting close very close so the
53:21 next the next thing that we needed to do
53:24 and we weren't really time it wasn't
53:26 really time at this stage to create the
53:30 Oracle encounter because you know by
53:32 this time we're talking you know this is
53:35 2015 when Bob Cooksey started making the
53:42 oracle temple structure we didn't get
53:45 this building into into the game until
53:49 maybe about a year later than that but
53:52 we really didn't have a need to get to
53:54 the interior of it until a year later
53:56 than that it wasn't until this year 2017
54:00 that we really had to get to the point
54:03 where we needed to have the interior of
54:07 the structure completed so that we could
54:10 you know create the finale of the game
54:13 with the audience with the Oracle so
54:17 what before that what was there like it
54:20 could could anyone even visit the
54:21 chamber they could see the exterior the
54:24 exterior was present in in brittany but
54:28 you could never get into it there was
54:30 never any way to enter into the into the
54:33 building that became so it was it was
54:38 sealed yeah and as time went on we got
54:42 to the point in the story where we were
54:43 able to to finish it and so the next
54:51 series of things that we did is we
54:53 started going back to the original
54:54 concept art here's some piece of
54:57 beautiful concept art that was made to
54:59 show some of the details of the Oracle
55:02 temple interior so we made sure to
55:05 include this in in the revision to the
55:11 interior we also had these monitors that
55:16 serve as the visual displays that the
55:21 Oracle is keeping track of so this this
55:24 is kind of one of those almost
55:26 steampunky displays that's right yeah we
55:31 want you know we've always wanted to go
55:32 was sort of a antique or old-fashioned
55:37 technology you know a lot of clockwork
55:42 gears a lot of you know brass and gold
55:46 type of materials and things like that
55:48 to make it feel you know a little an
55:51 Akron is dick for you know it's not your
55:53 standard medieval fantasy game right
55:55 yeah we have a question here from Paulie
55:57 walnuts what about the other sealed
56:00 building across from the Oracle so that
56:04 that is a I think that's a either a
56:08 Coliseum or a theater has not it's not
56:12 associated is it no it's not associated
56:14 with the Oracle but that is also
56:18 something that doesn't have an interior
56:20 currently and will eventually hopefully
56:23 be a place that you can get to for
56:26 performances and other types of things
56:28 like that but that is that's in the
56:31 future okay very cool so this is what
56:39 the concept of the Oracle temple
56:41 interior looked like finished you know
56:42 this incorporates all the different
56:44 aspects that's that that we've talked
56:46 about the spiders the Oracle herself the
56:49 monitors that the room details basically
56:51 I have one question here yes I'm putting
56:57 you on the spot touch the monitor is
56:59 behind her why are they behind her
57:01 because she can't see them their monster
57:03 that we can see so you'll see in the
57:06 when we get to the room itself in just a
57:09 minute you'll see that these monitors
57:12 are animated they don't just stay static
57:14 like that they move around okay they
57:15 swing around and everything oh that's
57:16 cool okay so you know you can only watch
57:20 so many TVs at one time right so sure so
57:24 some of them have to be behind while
57:27 others kind of come to the forefront you
57:29 know we may not literally see them swing
57:32 around and from but that's the
57:34 suggestion that that that that is how
57:37 they function
57:38 so once the model was complete or once
57:44 the proxy model was complete I gave it
57:45 to Fletcher to finish and he's the guy
57:48 who created the the Oracle in her throne
57:52 with the cables all over her he also
57:56 created a great support structure above
57:59 he created the monitors once those
58:04 things were complete it got handed over
58:06 to Matt Schmitz who's our animator and
58:08 he brought it all to life with motion we
58:13 have a comment from ekam on Kandra on
58:17 conned us I think is roughly how I
58:20 pronounce that sorry I thought I heard
58:21 your name there the Oracle is a prisoner
58:24 it looks like well she definitely
58:27 doesn't look like she can go anywhere
58:30 she's and it seems like she's been there
58:33 for a long long time which is part of
58:36 the mystery of new Britannia but yeah
58:40 you're right she's not gonna get up and
58:41 go anywhere out of that chair she's over
58:46 time new feeds have been plugged in and
58:48 she's you could say that she's a
58:50 prisoner there an interesting
58:54 interesting question I suppose yeah once
59:01 the animation was done the next thing we
59:02 had to do was create the via the visual
59:05 effects for those screens now that's
59:07 that's where daemon Waldrop comes into
59:09 the picture and he peonies are he's our
59:14 he's our lead visual effects effects
59:16 artist and what he did I told him that I
59:21 wanted to make sure that we showed sort
59:24 of a chronology of all the scenes that
59:27 you've had visited throughout your
59:29 travels in new Britannia so that you
59:32 know where you start with you see her in
59:36 the or in the Isle of storms from the
59:38 very first scene and you'll see her at
59:40 the end and there's a long string of
59:44 adventures that you go through
59:46 throughout the game and I wanted the the
59:49 images on the screens to be recognizable
59:52 locations to sort of be a review of how
59:56 flash ended here how far you've come
59:58 you know that's neat so he did that and
60:01 he created these great slide visual
60:08 feeds and then we I think it's probably
60:12 time for us to show it so I'm gonna give
60:14 that the you sure this so we're done

60:18 show the big reveal it will show it in
60:22 the game in the game alright so let's uh

64:01 where you've been in novia got the
64:06 watchers in here who never rest
64:10 they're always watching so these
64:13 Watchers they'll they'll visit her Oh
64:18 and then leave and go of somewhere into
64:19 one of the scenes she's watching her
64:21 they are they always like these two here
64:23 that we're seeing they're always in the
64:26 chamber and then the ones outside are
64:27 always outside well in this case you
64:29 know these are the ones that kind of are
64:32 always in the chamber hanging around the
64:33 suppose I suppose you could you know you
64:36 could suggest that you know they they
64:39 you know maybe they go out but I kind of
64:42 like the idea that these are almost like
64:43 you know the Queen's attendants and
64:45 these are though these are the ones that
64:48 that are in the Oracle temple because
64:51 even still they're doing their job you
64:56 know so there it is you can see the
64:59 great work that so many different people
65:02 have done from you know our animators to
65:07 our 3d modelers to visual effects to you
65:14 know world building yeah it's really
65:19 it's a really I really do feel like this
65:23 scene was the greatest team effort that
65:28 we've that we've had in the game there
65:31 because it required so many different
65:34 people for it to come together story
65:37 people conversation sorry okay way to
65:40 make sure it's all working the way it
65:41 should yeah you know the tech team to
65:46 who you know gave us all the shaders and
65:49 lighting support and AI that needed to
65:54 be president if we go and look if we go
65:58 and start speaking with her we'll get to
66:00 our conversation camera and so this is
66:03 how you'll encounter and we wanted we
66:06 wanted this camera angle to be low as if
66:09 you were seeing it from the Watchers eye
66:12 view yeah and you might even get a
66:14 watcher coming into your into your field
66:17 of vision here if we wait long enough
66:19 but this is how you will how you will
66:25 reach the the end of your story a long
66:29 journey through new Britannia
66:32 and all of the things you've experienced
66:35 and can see hints of on the monitors
66:38 here and really even though it's you
66:41 know like you said just a minute ago
66:42 this is the climax the end of the story
66:46 currently for the game there's much more
66:50 to explore throughout the game after
66:54 you've been in this chamber you can go
