Desolis/Chamber of Souls
Release: Blade of the Avatar

The Chamber of Souls is a series of ruins lying beneath the desert city of Desolis, dating from the Obsidian Empire. It is here that the Destiny Pool lies, and where the Obsidian Eye delivered his Prophecy.

The walls of the Chamber of Souls are covered by the names of those individuals who lived and died for the glory of the Obsidian Order, and who helped bring it to the height of its power long ago. Some might seem quite mundane or fanciful, but all represent ancient Obsidian functionaries, soldiers, or sorcerers of days gone by.

Trivia[edit]

  • I actually love the idea of the names being ancient members of the Obsidian Order as described in the novel (ancient even from the viewpoint of the Obsidians depicted in Blade of the Avatar), and at first I had the pipe-dream of being able to cover the walls in totally unique names... But after beginning to create the texture map for merely one plaque that would cover merely one wall segment, on one of two floors, I quickly realized I may have bitten off more than I could chew in the limited time I had to create and build the whole scene... Add to that the fact that there were very few cultural reference for Obsidian name derivation, and I was stuck with filling a LOT of space with a number of names I had to create swiftly, on the fly.

The names themselves shouldn't be looked at as if they represent any actual game lore, since they're merely the product of the rapid-fire nature of the game development cycle... What the plaque "represents" is certainly lore-connected, but the names should be ignored as background fluff...
