The pirate Atos is a mysterious figure, not often seen in Novia.

Chris "Atos" Spears is the Technical Director of Shroud of the Avatar. While his official title was Tech Director, he worked on several roles from lead technical designer to programmer and even company lawyer at one point.[1] In October 2019, Chris' Catnip Games acquired the operating assets of Portalarium, Inc.; primary of which is Shroud of the Avatar.
Chris Spears was teaching C++ at the University of Texas at Arlington before his brother talked him into joining the game industry which he's been a part of for more than 20 years. He also worked with Richard "Lord British" Garriott on Tabula Rasa. Chris has shipped more than a dozen titles including console games from all generations, hand held titles, MMOs, mobile, and even two smart toys.
- "In the small amount of time Chris spends away from the office each week, he enjoys cooking for his wife, playing computer games, hiking, and playing with his Italian Greyhound. While Chris believes that any good game is worth playing no matter the genre, fantasy RPGs are where Chris spends most of his time. Most recently Chris played Skyrim, Diablo 3, and Guild Wars 2 but enjoyed them all far less than he should have because he continuously studies their design and tech choices instead of just sitting back and letting art flow."[2]
