Focus Transfer Ratio
This effect causes the avatar to lose focus rather than health when attacked. In other words, when an avatar sustains damage, the points of health loss are transferred to points of focus loss.
The Focus Transfer Ratio is the amount of focus you lose for every point of health damage you would have received.
Here is an example. Let's say you have the Shield of Air skill active, which at your skill level gives a focus transfer ratio of 1.2. You are attacked by a bear, which inflicts 100 damage. Without any focus transfer, this 100 points of damage would be subtracted from your health. With focus transfer, damage does not reduce your health, it reduces your focus instead (in other words, health loss is transferred to focus loss). The amount of focus lost equals the transfer ratio (1.2) times the health damage (in this case 100): so 1.2 x 100 = 120 focus is lost. So, for this example, instead of taking 100 points of health damage, the avatar takes 120 points of focus loss.
A lower focus transfer rate is better. If your focus transfer rate is 0.5 and 100 damage is inflicted upon you, the amount of focus lost is (0.5 x 100) = 50 focus. Comparing the 2 examples above, for 100 damage that you would have received, the lower focus transfer ratio resulted in losing less focus. Thus, a lower focus transfer rate means that you lose less focus per given amount of damage that you would have sustained.
Focus transfer will only occur if the Avatar's focus points are sufficient to sustain the focus losses. If the avatar's focus pool is too low to accommodate the focus losses, then the avatar will lose health when damaged.
