Crafting Categories by Skill[edit]
I looked over the analytics for R4 weekend and the majority of the people went from the Main Page to Category:Crafting or Category:Blacksmithing. Categories aren't great pages to be pointing readers to. We have a lot of good information on the wiki but people may be having problems getting to it. So I think the 'Crafting Categories by Skill' section should be changed to something like this;
Crafting Articles: Crafting · Recipes · Crafting Guide · Gathering · Refining · Production
And those pages need to be improved. Crafting especially is pretty bare at the moment and should provide instructions on crafting and a portal to the rest of the pages. (Maybe Crafting Guide could have the information it provides moved over to Crafting? I'm not sure.) Gathering an its sub pages (Mining, Field Dressing, etc) are looking pretty good. - Yes, categories aren't the best place to point to since it's just a list of pages. We really need articles with guides for each type of crafting and each skill. I agree with moving the info in Crafting Guide into Crafting to make the Crafting page more substantial and worthwhile. I was able to expand Mining, Field Dressing, Foraging and Forestry into substantial articles with most, if not all, of the information we have currently. Mostly because I was lost trying to figure out these systems this past weekend. We need to do the same for the rest, including screenshots and videos where appropriate. Most are just recipe lists which almost match the categories.
- Taking into account what is currently implemented, I'd like to see something like this for sections in the individual articles: skills (generalized and specialized), complementary skills, ingredients, tools, and recipes. The crafting article can include generalized information, listing each of the skills, a basic primer on crafting, and the crafting game loop. --Alianin (talk) 19:29, 3 April 2014 (UTC)
