The Paths of the Dead are said to allow access through the Blackblade Range, as an alternative to Nightshade Pass. It is unknown if these rumors are correct.

During the events in Blade of the Avatar, Aren Bennis and Syenna go searching for the Paths of the Dead, and come across the ruins of Alabastia. This trip was a trick, however, to kidnap Aren and his Avatar Blade.
