SotAWiki talk:Policy

This page is to overview the combined policies now that sotawiki has merged with ultimacodex. The purpose of this page is to outline what rules we have and why we have them... please weigh in on your thoughts.

Currently I'd like to see something roughly like this:

  1. You must keep all personal views on information out of pages (I.E.: this is the BEST place to go) in the primary namespace. Your personal profile page and guild pages can have these statements but must not be considered hurtful toward another entity (I.E.: we're ten times better than ____ are). More information available on our Getting Started page.
  2. You may not inform users any exploit, error, miscue, bug in the game that might give players an unintended advantage.
  3. You may not inform users of auto, macro and/or cheat applications in violation of the Portalarium ToS.
  4. You may not violate any applicable laws or regulations, or promote or encourage any illegal activity including, but not limited to, hacking, cracking or distribution of counterfeit software, or cheats or hacks for Shroud of the Avatar or any other service.
  5. You may not violate the rights of any party including rights of privacy.
  6. You must keep all information not readily found in the game linked to it's source. We pride ourselves in being accurate and if you're found to not use citations correctly your edits may be removed.
  7. You must keep all information about real money transactions, and sites that support them, off the wiki. We do not endorse or encourage the use of any specific site and take a neutral stance on if you should use them yourselves. We firm on the fact that we are a gaming resource and not an advertisement for auction sites.
  8. You must keep all images linked to their proper copyright and not claim another author's work as your own.
  9. You must keep all links to PG13 friendly sites. We do not allow adult themed, hate crime, or anything found to be offensive to the general public (as decided by our Staff
  10. Prior to release, we will only provide a spotlight from our main page to sites approved by Portalarium via spotlights or direct approval from our staff and their staff.

Prior to the merger the unspoken rules were:

  1. No linking to RMT sites.
  2. Only use portalarium's spotlight fansites, which do not trash talk the wiki, for our main page spotlights.
  3. No chasing away the new editors.

Prior to the merger the only written rules were:

  1. inform users any exploit, error, miscue, bug in the game that might give players an unintended advantage.
  2. inform users of auto, macro and/or cheat applications in violation of the Portalarium ToS.
  3. violate any applicable laws or regulations, or promote or encourage any illegal activity including, but not limited to, #hacking, cracking or distribution of counterfeit software, or cheats or hacks for Shroud of the Avatar or any other service.
  4. violate the rights of any party including rights of privacy.

Now that we have a place to hash it out, lets get crackin'!

I just added # 10 about the spotlights. I think this is important to be sure we're not upsetting new sites that may be amazing, but at the same time keeping a high quality fansite that represents the game. Violation (talk) 16:12, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
