Dread Artifact

Dread Artifact are three artifacts that wield great power when used.

The Dread Artifacts each grant a unique and powerful spell that allows the Avatar to wield great power but over time will require great sacrifices.[1]

How to activate[edit]

  • With the Dread Artifact equipped, you will also need the specific reagent used for each one in your inventory. To activate the power (spell), a specific sequence of words of power must be spoken. In the chat window, you will need to manually type the artifacts specific words of power. This will activate the one power (spell) of the artifact, and delete the reagent that is used for each one. This power can only be used one time, per reagent.

Making a Pattern for a Dread Artifact & Using it to Create Decoration & Trade-able Items[edit]

The Dread Artifacts are quest items that cannot be moved out of your inventory unless they are equipped (i.e. they cannot be used as decoration, put in your bank, traded, or sold). However, you can craft a pattern for each Dread Artifact, so that you can create trade-able items that have the appearance of the Dread Artifacts.

Step 1: Making a Pattern of a Dread Artifact[edit]

The recipes for making these patterns drop as loot only if the avatar has completed the related story-line and has obtained the particular dread artifact.

The recipes for making these patterns drop as loot from certain Obsidian Cabalists that have the anti-virtue of the item that is being converted:

These recipes can only be used on the Obsidian Forge in Hilt Fortress. By using these recipes on the Obsidian Forge, you can generate patterns for the Dread Artifacts. The dread artifact is not destroyed in this process (and it remains in your inventory as a quest item). The pattern that is produced is trade-able and can be transferred out of your inventory (however, the pattern cannot be placed as decoration).

Step 2: Applying the Pattern to an Item[edit]

The pattern can be applied to an appropriate crafted item. Once you apply the pattern to an item, the player can do any of the following with the item:

  • Equip the item
  • Trade/sell the item to other players or NPCs.
  • Use the item as decoration (note: the heart of sorrows pattern gets applied to a crafted necklace, and necklaces cannot be placed as deco at the time this was written, but may be place-able as deco in the future).
  • Place the item in a container or in the bank.
