Tools
There are 2 types of tools in game:
- Equipable Tools - these must be equipped in order to conduct Refining, Gathering, and Production.
- Non-equipable tools - these tools are placed on a Crafting Station as part of a recipe.
Non-Equipable Tools[edit]
These tools are placed on a Crafting Station as part of a recipe; they are not equipped.
Non-equipable tools cannot be repaired and cannot be modified with a Tool Engraving Kit.
In the recipe book, recipes that use non-equipable tools will list the tool among the ingredients and the tool name will be followed by "(τ)", a stylized capital T in parentheses (which stands for "Tool").
These tools can be purchased from NPC Crafting Supplies Merchants and some other crafting related NPC Merchant Types.
- Bone Needle
- Edged Chisel
- Molds (such as Ingot Mold, Wire Mold, etc.)
- Protractor Angle Finder
- Rawhide Mallet
- Stone Chisel
- Wire Pliers
- Wood Chisel
- Wood Rasp
Equipable Tools - General Information[edit]
These tools must be equipped in order to conduct Refining, Gathering, and Production.
Properties of Equipable Tools[edit]
- Prosperity Tools and Artisan Tools do not lose durability (i.e they are indestructible and do not break; therefore, they never need repair).
- Standard (Non-Engraved) Tools and Engraved Tools have the following properties:
- They lose 1 point of Durability each time they are used.
- They will not function when they have zero durability (i.e. the tool is broken).
- A Repair Kit - Tool can be used to restore durability to the tool (drag and drop the repair kit onto the tool).
- A Standard (Non-engraved) Tool can be converted into an Engraved Tool by dragging and dropping a Tool Engraving Kit onto the Standard Tool. Engraving the tool adds positive (and sometimes negative) bonuses to the tool depending on the type of Engraving kit that is used.
Repairing Equipable Tools[edit]
- Prosperity Tools and Artisan Tools do not lose durability (i.e they are indestructible and do not break; therefore, they cannot be repaired).
- Standard (non-engraved) tools and Engraved Tools can be repaired (even if they are broken with zero durability). Repair is accomplished by either of the following methods (the repair kit is consumed during the repair):
- Drag and drop a Repair Kit - Tool onto the tool.
- Right click on the tool and select "Repair" from the menu (this will only work if you have a Repair Kit - Tool in your inventory).
How to Equip & Unequip a Tool[edit]
- There are two ways to equip/unequip a tool.
- Method 1 - open your Inventory window by pressing the "I" key or by clicking on the backpack icon in the upper right of the game window. Click the cog icon in the upper right of the Inventory window and make sure "Show Equipped Tools" is selected (when the "Show Equipped Tools" mode is activated, the menu will list "Hide Equipped Tools" as an option rather than "Show Equipped Tools"). Place the tool in your inventory, then right-click the tool and select "Equip (Tool)" to equip the tool. To unquip the tool, find it on your inventory list , right-click on it, and select "Unequip (Tool)". Note: Equipable tools will show up under the "All items" tab and the "Crafting" tab in the Inventory Window.
- Method 2 - open your Skills window by pressing the "K" key or by clicking on the Stained Glass Window icon in the upper right of the game window and selecting "Skills" from the menu. Select the "Crafting" tab in the skills window, then (on the left side of the window), click on the icon for the crafting modality for which your tool will be used (e.g. Click on the "Mining" icon if you want to equip a Pickaxe). In the lower mid portion of the window you will see a small box labelled "equipped". To equip the tool, drag and drop the tool into the box. To unequip the tool, drag it out of the box and drop it into your inventory (or you can right-click on the tool in the box and select "Unequip (Tool)").
Where to Get Equipable Tools[edit]
- Standard (Non-Engraved) Tools can be purchased from NPC Crafting Supplies Merchants and some other crafting related NPC Merchant Types.
- Engraved tools are made by applying a Tool Engraving Kit to a Standard (Non-Engraved) Tool.
- Prosperity Tools can be purchased in the Crown Shop.
- Artisan Tools were given out as Pledge Rewards during initial game development, and can no longer be obtained (unless another player is willing to part with their Artisan Tool).
