Deletes[edit]

How do we delete pages? There are some redirects gumming up the variant queries. CanVox (talk) 07:32, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

Re: the above, it turned out it was actually a result of corrupted property data that was fixed when I re-saved the redirects. HOWEVER, I would like to discuss an alternative to the current system of creating a separate variant for each possible combination of materials- instead of doing that, we could have variants with proper stats for the materials themselves, then have just the "generic" recipe for the actual item. People can click through and see the stat options for the ingredients easily without us having to make 36 or 216 pages for each equippable item. I think this is the right way to go but will require a lot of articles deleted.67.164.95.3 16:04, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

The original decision was that each item would have its own page on the wiki, and since there are so many item variations this does lead into multiple pages. I have ideas of how to do this, including using a new Itembox that automatically pulls the materials. There are some issues with showing multiple item stats on a single page, however. We might be able to get around that by using subpages and/or a separate namespace for query only. I'll discuss this with the other admins. For now, please do not change any of the other variant pages, as we lose the ability to query on them. Thanks. --Browncoat Jayson (talk) 14:35, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

Uploading pictures.[edit]

I have been trying to get pictures of ingame items. i used a screenshot and than used GIMP to give it a inviseble background. now i see that Browncoat Jayson uploaded lots that seems to been grabed from game data. any1 knows how i can do that? Dev + Asset Pack Program don't have them. Thanks ~~~~

Don't bother trying to take screenshots of icons; they can generally be extracted at a higher quality. I'll see if I can get a dump of newer icons. Screenshots are really only useful to show items that are worn or in the world. Browncoat Jayson (talk) 00:39, 26 March 2018 (MDT)

Variations of long bows[edit]

I noticed that the variations of the long bows were deleted and I can't figure out why. WeirDave (talk) 14:35, 13 August 2018 (MDT)

I'm still seeing the crafted variations under the Wooden Long Bow generic page. Where were you looking to see they were deleted? --Browncoat Jayson (talk) 11:54, 14 August 2018 (MDT)
The page http://sotawiki.net/sota/Wooden_Long_Bow lists all the variants but the pages for those have all been deleted.
No, they've been moved to the Community namespace, but the pages need to be edited to reflect the actual name of the item. They are defaulting incorrectly. I'll get to this eventually. --Browncoat Jayson (talk) 12:09, 28 August 2018 (MDT)

Merchant prices[edit]

The item infobox has a property 'value', with the description 'item value as shown in tooltip'. At least according to doc this is the only value/price attribute. But this in many cases differs wildly from what NPC merchants ask for the item. On the other hand, the 'merchants that sell this item' auto-list seems to take exactly this value*2. Noticed in the 'Recipe: Egg' item i just created. How do I get the merchant price (100 in this case, item value 5) into that list? Chirp (talk) 14:09, 13 April 2019 (UTC)

Generally, NPCs sell goods for double the normal price, which is why that value is set. However, you can override this for individual items by adding the "sell price=" attribute to its Infobox Item. I've updated Recipe: Egg with this change. --Browncoat Jayson (talk) 13:19, 16 April 2019 (UTC)

Mass link changes for renamed items?[edit]

This release (R64) nicely brought dyable hard-boiled eggs for decoration. Unfortunately those are now called 'Egg', the old ones used in many recipes and vendors are now 'Raw Eggs'. If you look at the what-links-here for the existing eggs, it is looooong. Uff. Do you have a tool to mass-change those links? (like a global replace in the db?)

The simple redirect-trick does not really work here - as there is a new item with the old name (the boiled 'Egg'). Btw, in the meantime I have created the new one as 'Egg (boiled)' with the matching recipe. Chirp (talk) 09:47, 14 April 2019 (UTC)

Fenyx has a bot that can do this, but I don't know how to use it myself. I'll get the renames taken care of; thanks for the heads up. --Browncoat Jayson (talk) 13:19, 16 April 2019 (UTC)

Ravalox[edit]

Curious as to whether Ravalox has been active (in terms of interface and/or input) lately ?

A: Ravalox' activities have been regaled in song all over New Britannia. But of his current activities and whereabouts? That is the stuff of myths and Legend.

Shield of Attraction, Common[edit]

I tried to update "Shield of Attraction, Common" for R105, but there are at least two problems. First, the tooltip has "Durability Multiplier: 400%", and I don't find a way to specify that in Infobox_item. Second, the tooltip has "Damage Avoidance: 2%", and the SotAwiki page complains that I shouldn't be adding the "%".

I'm wondering whether we need a Infobox_shield or a revised Infobox_item to handle Durability Multiplier, etc.? I'm not sure I handled "Heavy Shield" correctly, either, and I'm not sure this is how I should be asking questions.
